Job Summary:
The Estimator position is responsible for generating and processing customer-requested quotes on a timely basis for standard and custom components for the Metallurgical Product Group. The Estimator will also facilitate all web-based communication, orders, and requests. This role reports to the Director, Metallurgical Product Group, and is a key role within the department.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic vision for the Metallurgical Product Group, aligning product offerings with corporate goals and market opportunities.
- Generates estimates which include price and timing for requested parts and projects.
- Works closely with the Sales team in developing quotes that will result in profitable orders for custom and standard component requests.
- Prepares timely estimates of costs of materials, labor, and equipment for manufacturing projects based on 3D models or 2D drawings, and customer specifications.
- Prepare ‘time and material’ quote requests as required.
- Works with Engineering staff, Accounting, and Program Managers to confirm that parts requested by customers meet the desired outcome.
- Work cross-functionally with sales, engineering, manufacturing, planning, scheduling, supply chain, and logistics to identify and resolve manufacturing, costing, and shipping issues for standard and custom component orders.
- Spend time with estimators to learn, gather experience, and help with complete mold quotes.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Required: Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Estimator, preferably in equipment manufacturing.
- Asset: Experience in inside sales or customer service (metallurgical specialty highly preferred).
- Proficient with MS Office applications and intermediate level competency with MS Excel preferred.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Familiar with manufacturing processes in a Metallurgical environment, to ensure accurate quoting is performed.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical aspects to sales and engineering teams as well as customer representatives.
- Must have strong presentation skills along with strong technical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a technical field is preferred, ideally in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Other relevant technical disciplines will also be considered
- This is an “on-site” position with limited flexibility for remote work.
- Manual dexterity required to use the desktop computer and peripherals.
- May be exposed to industrial sites.
- On very rare occasions, weekend or after-hours work may be required to support critical project demands.
